review 1: In writing Paranormal Intruder, author Caroline Mitchell has really done a great job of documenting the amazing preternatural disturbances that she, her family and a surprisingly large cast of assorted friends, neighbors and acquaintances experienced first hand over a period of roughly three years. Her account of the poltergeist-like events that first took place in her home, and later in a number of public locations outside it, is remarkably detailed, wonderfully candid, and as expected, quite chilling.Written in modern and sometimes rather colloquial British English (which is more than appropriate, given that the author and her family live in England), Paranormal Intruder is an extremely engrossing book. For me, however, the details sometimes seemed to get a bit muddled... more, for I must admit that I had more than a little trouble at times, trying to determine who was who, and just exactly where they fit in in relation to the author's husband, Neil; the person who seems to have been the primary target of the still unknown entity's longstanding and quite considerable wrath. Not to give too much away, but Neil really is the protagonist of this particular non-fiction tale. How the poor man endured most of the torment he was subjected to over such a long period of time is almost beyond imagining, but one is certainly left with a strong sense of empathy for him especially - although the author herself seems to have suffered in at least equal measure, one way or another, throughout their shared ordeal. And then there's Neil's cigarette rolling, pub hopping close friend, Lee, who seems to have been such an integral part of the whole thing as to leave one with lots of nagging questions; about why the entity seemed to be most active when the two men were together. And why weren't the couple's children or dogs also targeted? To be sure, Paranormal Intruder is a book full of equally confounding puzzles to ponder. Not surprisingly, the author does not proffer many answers, but certainly does manage to keep the reader fully engaged throughout the course of her narrative.Obviously, to this day, Caroline Mitchell, her husband Neil, and all the others involved in the case simply don't quite understand enough about what went on to give any truly satisfactory explanations as to exactly what they all experienced. Was this a classic haunting scenario, a poltergeist infestation, or a decidedly more sinister "demonic" possession of some type? Of course, we're all still waiting for answers like that, and the most confounding thing of all, is that they simply may never be forthcoming. Not in this life anyway.Which leaves me to clarify why I feel so strongly that Caroline Mitchell deserves a full five stars for her considerable efforts in writing this book. Does Paranormal Intruder contain perfectly punctuated prose? Not by a long shot. Are words like 'altar' spelled "alter?" Oh yes. But beyond the minor errors (that might hopefully get ironed out in subsequent editions), first and foremost, this book is a resounding success in the most important way possible. For it succeeds quite handily at breaking down the wall of secrecy and socially stigmatized shame that so often stymies those that genuinely do experience things of a paranormal nature. For not only is the author a trained police officer (making her a witness with impeccable credentials, by the way), but she and her family obviously have the guts and inspired sense of responsibility to come forward with a full account of their bewildering experiences. On top of everything else they've had to deal with, the process of daring to step out into the ridicule filled public limelight has got to be even more frightening still. For this, the author, and all the witnesses she enlists to give their own written, closing statements verifying the authenticity of the whole affair, deserve eternal kudos and a riotous standing ovation. Hopefully, this kind of courage in the face of adversity will serve as a shining example, and more people will come forward with their own stories of encounters with terrifying unseen entities that seem to exist only to plague the living. Perhaps then, and only then, will we finally get a few answers to even just a few of those nagging questions that have plagued mankind throughout the ages.
review 2: Thank you Caroline and Neil for writing this book and the courage it took to put yourselves ' out there' for folks judgements and criticism in which most have not lived, nor walked in your shoes! I truly admire how you choose to stay in the house and literally face your fears. I have only had slight experiences in the supernatural, nothing compares to your experiences, so my thoughts, empathy and healing is sent to you and yours:).Your book was a page turner. Bravo and continue to help others understand, learn to accept that just because one can't see it, does not mean it does not exist...Lisa Myshall BradyJune 2014 less

Some of it was totally ridiculous, but it wasn't a complete waste of time.
