review 1: Set in the first few years after Thomas and Kate married. Not quite as lively as the the first book in the series, but part of that was that this book lacked the madcap and matter of fact tone of the letters between Kate and Cece. Our hero is at the other end of the social scale, a poor orphan, who is living a hard-knock life in a Dickensonian orphanage. He is intelligent and a hard worker, but his life is difficult indeed, although it seems that someone special has taken an interest in him. When he is taken on as the lowliest servant in the home of Lord Schofield and his very pregnant Kate, his life looks up. What happens next is very charming indeed.
review 2: This is a much better book than I thought it would be from the cover. I hadn't realized when I picke
... mored it out, but the author is one of the co-authors of Sorcery & Cecilia, and this book takes place in that world. I liked all of the little explanations of day-to-day life of servants in the Victorian era (since they seem to be everpresent in most books of this type, but rarely mentioned in detail), and the story was more gripping than it usually is in middle reader books. I docked a star...I'm not sure why. Probably just because the book is middle readers, but possibly also because I thought the magician lord should have been more interested in the help's lives if he was portrayed as being so nice. less

There was not much to this. It ended and I was like "...wait, that was it?"
