review 1: This is the final book of Ms. Brown’s “Honky Tonk” Series. Let me start off by saying that this novel took me a pretty long time to finish. Although I liked it, I didn’t love it like I did the others. I think the reason behind that is that this one felt so repetitive. Sharlene seemed to explain all of the other owners stories so many times that I probably could have just read this book and knew exactly what happened in the other three without ever picking them up. I really liked Holt’s character. It takes a brave man to take in five year old twins, and just reading him interact with them was very heartwarming. His interactions with Sharlene, although mischievous at times, were very sweet and made me like him even more. All in all I did like the book and it was a ... moregood read, but if you want my honest opinion I think Ms. Brown could have ended this series with the third book. Like I said before, it was just very repetitive and I guess that’s what kind of made me just like the book and not love it.
review 2: ‘Honky Tonk Christmas’ is the final book in the Honky Tonk series and it was on par with the others. Four stars. The combination of characters in this book include an Iraq war vet heroine, a super sexy cowboy (mandatory) and two adorable little kids that steal the show. It’s all very romantic and very cute.Sharlene Waverly has been given the Honky Tonk to own and operate and she loves it. Like the three owners before her, the Tonk suits her like a comfy jacket and provides the stability she needs after two tours of duty in Iraq. But no matter how many friends Sharlene has or how busy she makes herself, the terrible nightmares continue to haunt her sleep.Meanwhile, thanks to the Internet and word of mouth the Honky Tonk has become ‘the’ place to be so Sharlene decides it is time for an additional room at the Tonk and hires the best carpenter in the county. He also happens to be extremely handsome and have two adorable kids under his care in Judd and Waylon. Sharlene has an instant connection with the kids and she’s finding it hard to ignore their handsome uncle, Holt Jackson. There is plenty of romance and some ups and downs on the road to love for Sharlene and Holt. Sharlene’s still haunted by her secret past and Holt is concentrating on what’s best for his kids and their future. He’s just not sure a bartender is the right role model and he knows he doesn’t want his kids around the Honky Tonk. They’re in love, but finding that common ground to move forward as a family proves difficult. Who’s willing to compromise? Has the famous ‘Honky Tonk charm’ finally run out? It’s all very sweet, especially the twins, Judd and Waylon. They were adorable and I enjoyed the way Brown wrote their dialogue – just as you would imagine little ones to talk. Unfortunately ‘Honky Tonk Christmas’ is the last in the series. Is this the end of the road for the Honky Tonk charm? It seems so at this stage. less
