review 1: Really great romantic suspense. Loved Thorne & Nadia. I adore Crane's UF books and her voice is just as strong here. Thorne's backstory is riveting. I love tortured heroes and he's the best one I've read in a long time. The scorpion thing really got to me. I liked the angsty breakup, the reunion romance, even the secret baby! There's a zaniness to Crane's writing that saves it from ever being cliche. I actually wanted to highlight several lines and I never do that. A few quibbles--they have sex in the study with the Hangmen outside, and there were moments when Thorne's super spy fighter skills didn't hold up. He tenses at a critical point, for example, which is a big "tell." Overall excellent & polished. 4.5
review 2: I found myself getting so frustrated with t
... morehis one, mostly because I hated how Thorne saw himself and how he thought everyone else saw him. Nadia wasn't much better, but it seemed like she changed, changed after Benny came into her life. With what little we saw of Nadia when she was the Party Princess, I didn't like her, but the Nadia after was so much better. I think that had Thorne and Nadia been able to have a normal relationship things would have been so much better for them. Instead each had to hide so much from the other, for survival, for what they thought was important, and some times just because. It was only when they took that very first tiny step towards trusting each other that you had hope for them, hope that the past could stay in the past and that the future will be bright for them. less
