review 1: "The Boy Who Could See Demons" was really engaging read. Jess-Cooke takes us into the minds of two very different people, the psychologist and her patient (the boy), in an effective and believable way. The structure, alternating chapters between the two of them, fully engages us in their very different perspectives, twisting with the plot as they story took several surprising turns. I was fully engaged nearly throughout. My one critique is that the final events of the book happened very quickly. It would have been enjoyable to have the ending play out in more detail, the way the rest of the book unfolded.

... moreace in Ireland, an area I am not familiar with, it touches on a period of time dubbed "The Troubles" and the affect it has had on Belfast and its community. It is an interesting topic and if the claims are true and not too exaggerated a very serious issue within Northern Ireland. This book delves into our the inner-workings of the human psyche and deals with our personal demons, pain and mental illnesses in those young and old. The book was a fast, easy read that kept me interested the entire time. It's not often a book's ending can catch me completely by surprise and I have to admit this one did. I highly recommend. less

This book had great potential. But the last part felt as if the author tried too hard to wrap it up.
