review 1: 3.5 but not enough to round up. Fanris hurt Eugenia's feelings, a long time ago, with careless comments and she hated him for it. Story started out with a steamy dream sequence, that hooked me, followed by a lot of "I hate you but love your body". Fanris has been in love with Eugenia and spent the story trying to convince her of his love. I didn't feel the spark between Fanris and Eugenia, they were together the whole book and I couldn't feel the chemistry between them. Eugenia's seduction felt forced, she would have inner monologue about hating Fanris and missing her dead husband, then proceed to have sex with Fanris. In the midst of having sex with Fanris, Eugenia would vocalize her hatred for Fanris and bring up her dead husband, but that seemed to turn Fanris on.... more This story was not for me.
review 2: I sort of hate giving this only two stars. After all, I loved the writing, and I loved the story premise. I loved all the characters (seriously, Hester & Camber were so cute I could hardly stand it) but one, and since that one was the heroine, well, that's hard to swallow. I didn't hate her, but at times I found her frustrating in the extreme. More than once my heart broke for Fenris. Given that, to my mind the HEA seemed forced. I can't help thinking that Fenris deserved so much better--and so did we. less
