review 1: I liked this! Turns out it's a sequel, but there was enough back story to carry me. I will now go back and read the first book. Modern day superheroes created initially by a lab accident and then by genetic inheritance, and this book follows the younger generation. It's not marketed as a teen book, but since the new generation is all teenagers (15-17), and a large part is specifically about them, it could be.
review 2: Carrie Vaughn intertwines two tales in this coming-of-age story about Anna and her super-powered friends. Besides Anna and her friends sneaking around, learning how to use their powers and become a working team, there is the tale of Celia, Anna's mother. Celia is hiding the fact she is being treated for cancer, while manipulating circumstances
... moreso that teens at a prestigious school have the opportunity to form super-hero teams. Those teams are needed in a confrontation with a super-powered villain in a confrontation about rezoning urban properties. A decent tale in a interesting environment. less

Not as strong as book one, but still a very good read.
