review 1: CSI Reilly Steel moved from California to Ireland to be with her father who has returned to his roots. She has been hired to upgrade the Dublin Police Forensics department and has to put up with some entrenched reluctance to embrace a new comer, a woman and new ideas. When they draw a case with few clues Reilly thinks there is a link to another case being pursued and when more murders follow she believes that they are all linked but is meeting resistance from the brass. When her mentor and teacher from the FBI Quantico FBI training center comes over to observe and advise they come to a startling and uncomfortable conclusion as to the person behind the killings. I think I will be on the lookout for some more of Reilly's adventures as this was a decent ... moreread.
review 2: Ultimately, I was disappointed with this. The premise was great and held a lot of promise, but the author managed to write all the dialogue as if everyone involved was based stateside, possibly still in CA. Try something by Denise Mina, THAT is how Irish dialogue should be written! The main character's "mystical" touchy-feely approach to a crime scene coupled with the modern Irish crime tech crews being portrayed as having lived under a rock since about 1980 were patronizing and ridiculous. And Chris's mysterious illness and odd blood work all comes to - nothing? That's not a cliffhanger, that's just lack of imagination. less
