review 1: This historical mystery involves nuns, abbots, a local lord and his extended family, and the aftermath of the Wat Tyler uprising and unrest in Yorkshire and the Riding. If you like complex mysteries, if you like historical novels (this one is set in 1383), you'll love Hangman Blind. Cassandra Clark's description is full of medieval vocabulary that will charm and puzzle readers. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
review 2: This book is not an overly taxing mystery and the clues are a little too obvious, but the historical setting adds some interesting colour to the story. The character of Hildegard is well drawn, although some of the supporting characters are a little two-dimensional. I also feel there were too many sub-plots which resulted in quite a d... morerawn out resolution of all the events and clues. Overall, an average crime novel, that in places was a little tedious, but with a strong central character and a good amount of historical "flavouring". less
