Colleen, Marcie. Love, Triangle. Illustrated by Bob Shea. Balzer + Bray, 2017. $17.99. ISBN 9780062410849. Unpaged. Ages 4-8. P8 Q8.
The relationship between a square and a circle changes dramatically when a triangle comes. The two get jealous of each other’s relationship with the triangle. They fight until the triangle is destroyed. Finally, they figure out a way to put triangle back together, so they can all be friends. However, the book ends with a new shape of a heart and hence the “Love Triangle” word play from the title. With a play on geometric terms, the humor takes the book to levels where students with higher level math knowledge will understand the book’s irony and play on words. My 16 year old daughter thought it had a great twist with the math vocabulary.
Verdict: It is a great read aloud and especially perfect for school libraries. I think a higher level geometry teacher at middle school or high school could have fun with this in the classroom, too.
