The Assassin's Curse
review 1: What a disappointment. I really enjoyed the first and was so excited to start this one and it began well but got lame fast. First there was the totally random lesbian thing, which, okay, fine. You want to go there, then go there. But don't make something taboo and then all of a sudden not taboo. Then there was the pseudo-feminist lecture/masturbation lesson that felt completely forced. And then there was the totally contrived trip to the underwater Disney world of talking sharks wearing, I kid you not, clothing made of shells and seaweed. And don't even get me started on how utterly unsatisfying the end was. Now I'm all worked up and leaning towards one star. So disappointing...
review 2: I was hoping to enjoy this book and its other half quite a lot but due to
... more a whole lot of weird plot jumps/inconsistencies and the main character being thicker than a redwood, I just couldn't get into it. I enjoyed the magic in the books and some supporting characters and relationships which bumped it up close enough to 3 stars in my mind. Overall I'd say it's a nice first foray and an easy enough read if you enjoy YA, pirates, and magic. less
