review 1: Cadel is enjoying ordinary life. Enrolled in a real college, coming home to a real family, looking forward to a normal future that doesn't involve criminal enterprises or evil masterminds---he's finally settling down. But when Prosper English is sighted, this growing peace is shattered. And for the first time, Cadel starts to wonder if he ought to strike back somehow...If it seemed impossible for the stakes to get any higher after the first two books, this story still manages to up the ante. Now with practically all the technology in Sydney potentially against him, Cadel finds himself hard-pressed to think his way out of a mess that keeps getting bigger around him.As with the other two books, the technical detail is very solid, but it never gets so in-depth that people who... more aren't computer-savvy would get lost. The best part about the level of detail is the horrifying possibility of it: not only that this kind of thing might happen, but here's one way someone might go about doing it.Overall this is a very good read. Cadel's fight with an opponent who strikes only through cyberspace gets far more intense due to the vast array of items now controlled through internet-enabled computers. The jargon level is higher, but it isn't necessary to understand what all the terms mean to appreciate the action. I rate this book Recommended.
review 2: *actual rating 3.5 starsIn the 3rd and final installment of the Genius series, I was expecting a happy ending after the main character had struggled through so many hardships in the series. Sadly, that didn't happen. After living a normal life for half a year, Cadel is forced back into the world of cons and tricks he so carefully avoided. Upon starting this book, I really wanted Cadel to finally have a normal life but as I soon found out, that wasn't possible. I was a little disappointed in the ending of this book. Throughout the whole series, Cadel struggles to free himself from Prosper's tyranny but that never happened in the book. I,however, enjoyed Cadel as a character. He was interesting to read about (seeing as he is a boy genius). One thing that irked me was the length of the book. The books in these series are all so long and so descriptive. One one hand, that's convenient and you can really immerse yourself in the book but on the other hand it starts to get a little bland after a while. This book was not predictable when it comes to the plot points but I did see a pattern in the big picture. Cadel gets captured, he escapes but is still not free from Prosper. In this book, that was still the case. Overall, this book was a good conclusion to the Genius series but I would have liked to see a more detailed ending. less
