review 1: You know what hell is? Apparently, hell is having to attend a support group for vampires every Tuesday night for all of eternity. Jinks has created a more realistic group of vampires, but they're a terribly sad lot. They feel sick all the time, they struggle to meet their own most basic needs, their isolation is horrible. And of course, IF anyone believed they existed, then they'd be hunted to extermination in no time. Nina, the narrator has been living this kind of hellish existence for thirty years. And now, one of them has been slayed.A book about vampires trying to figure out who is out to get them should be interesting, exciting even, but no. It's just endless tedium and dread and fear, and all the action takes place off-stage while Nina sleeps through the day. And wh... moreen the group encounters something even more horrific than their own lives and worries, that also results in off-stage drama.I didn't hate the book, but I do hate the idea of such joyless lives. Talk therapy isn't helping, these people need SSRIs and fast.Library copy.
review 2: The cover drags you in by the cartoonish illustrations and the title "The Reformed Vampire Support Group". As a reader you might be thinking, like I was thinking... "This is a humorous book about vampires and their woes". You would only be half right.Nina is a vampire, a 51 year old teenager who still lives with her mother in Sydney, Australia. She lives off of guinea pigs and sleeps in a Iso-tank in her mother's basement. Nina has a bunch of vampire friends and a wonderful priest friend that not only oversees these therapeutic support group meetings, but also takes care of any daylight hour needs the group has. This is essentially a memoir of a "real" vampire. "We don't want people to think we have superpowers or anything. But-well- if you stick in all that stuff about blooding, and vomiting, and dead guinea pigs, and bad breath, and hemorrhages, and dizzy spells...I mean, who's going to want us around, for God's sake? We'll be treated like lepers."The memoir is a great vampire adventure with lots of setbacks. The poor vampires and their awful misfortune. I gave this book 3 stars because it wasn't funny. It kept my interest well enough to finish the book but that is it. I wasn't especially keen to their problems and didn't have any true feelings for the characters. It was however and interesting take on the vampire genre. Making them weak and lame. No one would consider these vampires sexy or romantic. Especially when they are puking their guts up all the time and whining about not feeling well. less

Very interesting book. Not your average book or vampires that we usually think of...
