review 1: This is a fun book set in a real London at a time when many children are lucky just to get a job as a chimney sweep or an assistant to a bogle catcher. Turns out that there are many kinds of bogles who live in people's homes, out buildings or sewers. Bogles eat children. A child must act as bait in a bogle trap. The child in this book is wise and swift moving. I warn you that this is the first book of a series.
review 2: Characters: The author is good at characters. Birdie is likeable and interesting. The bogler, Mr. Bunce, is tough but decent. A notable villain (who I will not name--spoiler!) is a fine example of the calm, evil, heartless kind. There are plenty of other good characters, such as Miss Eames the folklorist.Plot: See summary. It moves along well.W
... moreriting: Good. The period (Victorian England) details are fun.Content: Some language, including G** d***. Not that much of it. Also violence, including unusual, indirect murder. And finally, Brethren: Recommended for ages 13+. Monster-hunting fans and Victorian England fans will especially like this. It's a little like Lockwood and Co. less
