review 1: Great disapointmentPerhaps I had too much expectation. A romance with a female fighter. I dreamed of such a book for a long time...there was a promise of something different. A girl with balls who will fight her way in a mysoginist world, where women are usually carrying fake boobs in bikini around the cage. The girl: I didnt like her. She is lame, weak for half the book. "Oh poor me ! Daddy dont want me to be a fighter. "At thirteen she dreams of becoming a MMA champion.10 years later she just trained for 2 years with a bad trainer because her daddy didnt want...And suddenly after a few month of training she win the title against a professionnal fighter. Please...When you want to be an athlete, a fighter (or a balerina or any other athlete) and be the best. Nothing can sto... morep you. ANd it is a lot of work and sacrifices. Obviously she doesnt have the guts, the heart and the soul. So instead of fighting for her dream she study kinesiologie... If she was competitive, she would at last be a winning athlete in some other sport, less violent for the sake of daddy: wrestling, judo, aikido, fending ?? You know being an athlete is hard work, but for women it is ten times more work for less money and less fame.If she is training and fighting, she should have an athlete's body: lots of muscles, abs,...but there is no mention of it. She never work out ?So why having a female fighter character if there is nothing interesting about it. She could be anything else. It's a pity because the fight scene are well written. The guy: For once the fighter hero is not an alpha asshole. He believes in her capacity and is supportive. The story: I can't figure out why all the BS about the cartel/Dragon, completely out of the blue...just pointless. The girl who wants to be a champion; the boyfriend who wants back in the cage; the two friends who will fight for the title, the ex girlfriend ...there was enough to work with, if well treated, why add some story about a cartel ?I suppose I expected kind of a "million dollar baby" with romance and sex in it.
review 2: Editorial Review. This was a tad different from your usual MMA fighter books. Why? Because there is a chick fighting in this one!!! The female protagonist has grown up around the rink and wants to prove her father wrong that girls can fight too! She kicks butt! There is a lot of deceit, cheating (in more ways than one), accusations, misunderstandings, action, loss...everything you want in a romance/suspense. Oh, and there are a lot of yummy male fighters too. This book is based off different POVs. less
