review 1: I was pretty underwhelmed by this book. I finally figured out that I didn't much like the main character, and actually, the whole premise was kind of weak. City vet Maz is forced to quit her London job after her relationship with the practice owner goes south. Coincidentally, her best friend from vet school needs a relief vet so she can take six months off to de-stress and tour the world. Maz reluctantly agrees to take over. She doesn't fit in - she wears high heels and a beaded halter top to a country fair in a field. (really?) She realizes the practice is financially shaky (which makes the whole "taking six months off" scheme really suspect). She finds herself wildly attracted to the son of the rival veterinary practice. Most improbably, eople switch back and fort... moreh between the two practices. That said, I did like some of the other characters, and the English countryside setting. This is the first in a series, and I will probably give the others a look-see - if the public library owns them.
review 2: I went looking for a light-hearted love-story chick book and this falls in that category but while it was readable, I wouldn't call it enjoyable. Besides the fact it made me cry twice and only laugh once, the characters were thin. One minute a character seems like the biggest jerk in the world, the next meeting they are the nicest person on earth without much explanation. Either everyone in the town is bipolar or unrealistic. This happened with multiple characters throughout the story. I don't regret reading it but it wasn't good enough to satisfy what I was looking for and the bar was set pretty low. less

A cute story, well-told, fun to read and, critical in my world sometimes, a happy ending!
