review 2: First of all I want to say that I never usually read this kind of book, by which I mean I usually do not bury my nose in a book that mainly focuses on a weak female character with certain strong attributes but at the end of the day is extremely dependent on certain males in her life (more than one to add drama)and is so busy "following her heart" and other Disney princess chiz she literally cannot apply logic to her life. HOWEVER, I would like to point out that although this series has been thus far predictable and leaving me face-palming on behalf of the characters, I have actually somewhat enjoyed it. Let's begin by picking apart the love triangle of the Shadow Falls series. Oh no, Kylie has to choose between the two hottest guys ever! Whatever shall she do? I truly do enjoy a good love triangle, but this wasn't one. The author seems to be changing the guys without any reason other than to add more drama. In the beginning, they were both too perfect. Then Derek becomes a jerkwad and leaves, so Kylie's falls into the arms of kind, protective Lucas. Then Derek returns with a change of heart and complete change of attitude and character, and Lucas becomes a total douche and leaves. What? Did I miss something? I understand character development and all that jazz, but wasn't that a little TOO sudden? At first I was picking favorites and taking sides, but now I'm rooting for Kylie to decide not to decide and be a strong, independent woman who doesn't need a gorgeous half fae or hunky werewolf to get through life.Next, let's talk plot. How do you stretch a simple story into four books? By adding in subplots and drama of course! If I'm being honest, I'm not 100% sure what the main conflict is. I'm pretty positive it's having to do with Kylie being a "chameleon". However there's a lot of other conflicts stealing the thunder, which actually isn't such a bad thing. I think that without the subplots the series wouldn't have kept me interested as longas it has.Overall I would say these books haven't been all bad, all things considered. The Shadow Falls series targets exactly who it's supposed to, teenage girls who dream of living an adventurous life and having two perfect guys fighting over them. less
