review 1: I wanted to give two stars rating, but this book is just not ok. I did not like it. I couldn't enjoy it from the very beginning of this book. When I reached page 156, I stopped for a bit to take a leap and read the last chapter. Then I decided to stop reading. I felt like I was wasting my time. I thought even if I can't enjoy it, at least it would be worth reading. But I was wrong. I was misled by the title "No One Wants You" and subtitle "A true story of a child forced into prostitution". Maybe it's me who's at fault, for I expected the girl to be on some sex industry and have lived a life of a sex worker. At least I expected a detailed complex story about it. But all I got is just some paragraphs of her being brutally raped by anyone at anywhere. (Cmiiw.) I thought I wou... moreld forgive that, but when I continued, I felt dull. The story is just...empty. I saw too much empty feelings; empty happiness, empty sadness, even the anger felt empty. The author's feeling couldn't reach me. (I assume maybe it's due her trauma she couldn't even write her honest feeling without struggling.)I hate to say these things, for many people may cherish the story of this book and even inspired by this book. But I really expected a heartbreaking story that makes me want to read it until the end but don't want to read it again in a very long period because I am afraid the story will destroy me even more. Before I started reading this book, I have read Kira-Kira by Cynthia Kadohata. (It was really heartbreaking. I hated it because it tore me to pieces. I don't want to read it again, but imo it was really beautifully written.) I am sorry I expected this book to be the same kind of it. I am disappointed by my own expectation. (Because if I didn't expect anything, I would have stopped reading after one chapter.)I tried to explain it as best as I could. My apologies if my review is way too messy and doesn't have good grammar. Thank you for reading!
review 2: It offers a new view for me into something - child prostitution. Good details at the beginning, however as she moves on with her life, the details became lesser and it doesn't make me feel like I'm a part of her life anymore. It feels like she's 'blogging' rather than writing about her life & recounting it to us. I don't feel the same intensity of emotions anymore too. That's a pity for the book, because it went up, and came down like a curve. less
