review 1: Charlie LeDuff is the type of journalist who goes looking for drama and in his hometown of Detriot, he finds plenty. Sometimes his account of the city is a little too personal. Did I really need the hear the story about the cops dragging him off in his underwear following a domestic dispute of the details of the LeDuff familyt tree? He really seems to care for his city though and spins quite a yarn. review 2: I really liked this book, although it broke my heart. I grew up in SW Ontario, very close to Detroit, and I remember the 1967 riots so well. The story of this tragic city is heartbreaking and infuriating. There is no reason other than pure venality for the state that Detroit is in, and it has sunk even further since this book was published earlier this... more year. Charlie Leduff sure hit it in the head. less
