review 1: Another fun romp in Kate Holly's crazy life. This book was just as fun and entertaining as the previous installments. I would love to continue to hear what sort of issues Kate encounters next, but it looks like this series may have stalled out. I have seen some indication that there is a fourth book, but it doesn't appear to be available anywhere. I hope Charlotte Hughes comes back to these characters and cranks out some more books!
review 2: Did anyone notice anything that resembled a mystery plot in this book?This book was more of a pamphlet made to dissuade people from becoming psychologists, because the cons outweigh the pros bucket-loads. And for a book that's supposed to be funny, it was actually quite depressing. People sometimes have bad days, but Kate ... morejust has a bad life.Kate is borderline obsessive compulsive, tiresome, loaded with emotional baggage, impulsive and reckless and a bit dim-witted for someone that's supposed to be bright and educated. You can see the effort Hughes has put into it, to create as many weird situations and obstacles as she can think of, but Kate just goes through them without any real pluck. And when she finally starts to fight back against her stalker, her ex is stabbed because of it. Funny right?There is also the trusted side-kick and required crazy family, but still there is no comedic relief to be found anywhere. They just go through the motions with each other and say what you expect them to and that's it. Like the scene where Kate is at Monas house, hears a scream at night, calls the police without even trying to find out who screamed or why. Really? And when the police arrives, she is like who's that outside? What's happening?I liked the huge family gathering just fine, charming red-necks and all. And then Hughes finishes it with a sad scene, where an overexcited rapist wannabe relative tries to get it on with her transsexual friend who is dressed as a woman and when he finds out she is a he, promises to basically shoot him/her to through the kneecaps if the word gets out about it. So what the reaction from Kate, or anyone? Shrugs all around.As there is potential for so much more, I guess I'll just have wait for it to get going.Now can someone also explain why in the book the new receptionist slash wacko is called Abigail and here on Goodreads blurb she is called Amanda? less
