review 1: Demented taxidermist Klaus collects animals--especially odd ones--as "pets," stuffing them so they won't leave him. It's up to Chickenhare--a hare with chicken legs and crown--and 3 friends to both escape Klaus and stop him from acquiring any more pets: "Klaus has been killing poor souls for home-decor purposes his ENTIRE life. We have to stop him!" Amusing, strange, plunges the reader skillfully and cheerfully into the action without irritating exposition, & blurbed by Bone's Jeff Smith.
review 2: A mix of strange, funny, and dangerous with a whimsical helping of dark, this is a tale of the small and powerless standing up to big bullies. Starting with the main character, who is half rabbit and half chicken, each character is odd and unique. I thought the art
... morework was fun and the heroic adventure engaging. The constant humor was too obvious and heavy-handed for my tastes, though. On a remote, frozen landscape, an evil man is delivering two rare animals to a twisted, mad taxidermist who collects exotic specimens to kill, stuff, and dress in spiffy clothing. Chickenhare and Abe, his bearded-turtle companion, must do their best to escape his--and his henchmen's--evil clutches, avoid betrayal by the others in their escape group, survive the snow, ice, and creatures that want to eat them in the wild, and maybe solve the mystery of the ghost. less

TAMS
Fun, middle-school action filled tale.More cartoon-y drawings, which fit the silly tale well.

Average rating. Illustrations were great but the story was lacking.
