review 1: This graphic novel reminds me vaguely of the Bone series by Jeff Smith. A bearded turtle (Abe) and a rabbit/chicken (ChickenHare) are taken captive by a man who intends to sell them to an evil taxidermist named Mr. Klaus. Klaus is eager to add them to his collection and puts them in cages with two other specimens that he intends to stuff. They must escape but even if they get out, there will be other challenges to be faced. Lots of action and adventure. Unusual characters, although the bad guys are very stereotypical. A fun read. Bit of a cliffhanger ending; there is a sequel.
review 2: Recommended for grades 5-7Two unusual creatures, Chickenhare and the bearded turtle, are captured and sold to Mr. Klaus-a deranged taxidermist. Mr. Klaus was scarred after
... more his beloved goat, Mr. Buttons, ran away from him. So now Mr. Klaus wants all his precious pets to be stuffed so they can never leave him. This is bad news for Chickenhare and Abe. Once locked up in a tower the pair meet two more unusual creatures, Banjo and Meg. Together the four plot their escape. When the ghost of Mr. Buttons joins the plot to seek revenge on Mr. Klaus, things get a little violent and iffy. The end of the books is left wide open for a series to follow. less

Quite strange. I will read on because I need to know more about Meg and Banjo.

Wow, surprisingly dark for a GN with a talking half chicken, half rabbit.

Sweet and fun, a good afternoon's distraction while the power was out.
