review 1: Egad! It has been ages since I read Tennis Shoes. While I have to say that the author has not lost his flair for weaving a compelling story, the story itself suffers from it's inability to move the story forward at a swift pace. While i am sure it is helpful to explain things in great detail, It is possible to have to much detail.Don't get me wrong this is not a failing, merely a weakness that can discourage the most ardent of readers. I feel that a lot of it could be tightened up and the details could be kept to a minimum, to hold the reader's interest. And the Chapter notes could be moved to the back of the book, or be released online, because while interesting, they can slow the pace a bit and deflect interest from the plot. Putting aside the critiques for a moment, ... moreI did enjoy the directions (some) that the story is taking, especially Josh and Marcos. I would be lying if I said I was not looking forward to the next volume. That being said, I do feel that taking so long to cap this story arc will be a big burden on Brother Heimerdinger's future, unless he has something big to pull out of the hat when Book 13 is complete. But honestly, I don't think you could top walking side by side with the Savior. Well...we'll see.
review 2: Oh my goodness.... SO AMAZING. As tacky as the phrase may sound: 'It REALLY brought the scriptures to life.' I know and understand them better because of this series, and I'm not concerned that I'm confused about the artistic license that the author has taken because the Chapter Notes outline specifically the scriptural account, versus the fictional one. I will say that I have a love/hate relationship with the bouncing around of narrators because many of the voices weren't distinctive enough alone to remind me of who was speaking. I often times would have to check and see who was talking... Meagan or Steffanie.... Harry or Uncle Garth. But so many dramatic things were going on that it was nice to hear certain things from an individuals perspective. I DID think that this was the last book and I was looking forward to a conclusion... but oh well. Can't wait for Book #.... 12??? Jeez!!!!! less

Too many story lines, not enough conclusion.
