review 1: What a great little book. This is like what the Star Wars prequels should've been about; a focused story of the rise and fall of an ambitious, gifted man. Despite some of the imagery/symbolism being a bit heavy-handed, a strong dramatic irony pervades the 1st third of the book, thereby setting up the delicious tragedy of Arthas' descent into becoming the one and only Lich King.A special mention of his one-time lover, Jaina, as her parts of the book provide us with the devoted sympathy needed for us to truly care about Arthas and his corruption/self-actualization. Plus she's a badass.Check this book out if you're into WoW, Castle Fight, absolute power stories, or any sort of fantasy stuff. Quick & thoroughly enjoyable read.
review 2: I have never played Warcraft
... more III myself, and my experience with watching my fiancé play mostly consisted of me asking him to poke the units until they said funny things, rather than following the plot. It may have been for that reason that he bought me this book for Christmas, hoping to enlighten me about the story of one of his favorite games.I will say that I wasn't sure what to expect at first, because I'm usually a little wary about books based on games, however I did end up enjoying it in the end. I found the beginning to be a little bit slow as the characters were introduced, but as it went on and the pace of the story picked up, I found myself much more invested in it. The only real complaint I have is how much time was spent on Arthas's traumatic relationship with his horse, which made me want to smack him upside the head whenever it was brought up - but I saw that more as a character flaw than anything. I really liked the author's writing style and found it an easy and pleasant read, as the text flowed very well and her use of descriptive language was nicely woven in to the story.I also finally learned the lore of Warcraft III, so bonus points for that. less

Loved it! I have been waiting so long since Wrath of the Lich King to get more of Arthas' story.

It was okay but not good. I disliked the overuse of flashback and the writing was simple.

/sigh You're better off just playing World of Warcraft 3, it was a better written story.
