review 1: I love the covers of these books. I thought that the author got better at plot lines. Love the sword. It's like a video game style upgrade to the character. I saw plenty of improvement between this book and the previous one. However, the writing still wasn't smooth. I'm still not connecting with the characters at that level where I fundamentally care whether they live or die. I think that the author is focusing too much on their powers. If you remove their powers, there wasn't that much depth to their character. I need to read about interesting characters, not just magical characters.

... moreice if she used her head- or actually listened to those who have been around longer in her new world!Overall I still enjoyed this book! Will definitely be reading the other books in the series. Is this a standalone book? No. Although I think you could try to skip the first story, you more than likely will not be able to appreciate this book without some of the background you would learn from reading the first one. This is not a romance story- so if you need romance, I'd probably suggest you read other books. This book is definitely urban fantasy- with an intriguing little love story way in the background!I'd recommend this book to those who like UF. less
