review 1: In this novella by Christine Bell, a time-traveling young woman (Stormy Gale) and her brother seek the brother's lost time traveling device. Jumping between the present day and the 19th century, and between the United States and England, Stormy Gale struggles to deal with her brother's guilt over losing the device, her own solitary lifestyle, and finally her past as an orphan on the streets of London. Although she consistently tries to forget her past throughout the narrative, the search for the time-traveling device forces Stormy Gale to admit and then embrace her past. The fast paced story keeps the reader's interest and ultimately brings the story to a quick, though predictable, end.
review 2: When I first heard this book was about a time pirate, I cheered w... moreith joy. I was so excited to start this book!!!! How can you go wrong with time pirates? Then I started reading. While this is a novella, it wasn't a very well developed story. For one, the background of Stormy (the main character/time pirate) and her brother didn't quite flow with the overall story. They were homeless on the streets of London in the 19th century, a time traveler came and took them away to the 21st century, they were well taken care of and become time travelers as well righting wrongs, etc. So, why exactly did Stormy have such trust issues? Why couldn't she have a relationship? Why was she so closed off to people? Two and two just didn't add up for me in the character development of this book. Because characters drive story and the characters fell flat, so did the story. It just had so much potential... less
