review 1: Once upon a time, I made a prayer to read the Cathechism of the Catholic Church some day. I think this book is an answer to that prayer. While I am aware this isn't exactly the same as the actual CCC, I feel that this is a substantially in-depth introduction to Catholicism for youths. As of yet I am not an adult, and in faith I feel very much like a child. What I do not particularly approve of (although I'm well aware I don't have the authority to judge) are certain rather comical illustrations that I think should've been portrayed in a more serious manner. For example, the stations of the cross are depicted in whimsical-looking (in my opinion, at least) stick figures; in my opinion, the final stages of Jesus' life and the possibly most painful experiences that any human be... moreing could go through should not arouse laughter but rather a sense of...reverence, and perhaps shame. How many people in the world would do something like that for any one person? Would you be humble and strong enough to do it? I know that I certainly wouldn't. & yet there this Man was, the Son of God, suffering the worst and bearing it all because nobody else could. All right, but this is a believer's point of view, and I must confess that my faith is very weak so please do not consider me an exemplary Christian. But what I can say is my opinion that this is a very good read for those who would like to understand Catholicism better and who may find the actual CCC somewhat confusing. Translated into the language of youths, this may be a decent supplement to your spiritual journey.
review 2: As with so many reworked religious books, the YouCAT fails to satisfy. For those who like the Catholic Youth Bible, YouCAT is a dream wrapped in a Bacon Sunday! For those who find the random design and shortened text to underestimate the young, it's a disappointment. The data is fine, but I'd rather give my teens something that will last them. I can't see a college dorm shelf sporting a YouCAT. It'd be like wearing a puff painted NewKids jean jacket in the late 90s... It just doesn't belong. Anyway - not a fan. less
