review 1: I liked it. I pulled this out of the library because I didn't know much about the personal lives of Jack and Jackie and was curious about them. From reading this book, I got the impression that in the beginning they didn't really love each other, and that they married for practical reasons. However, as time went on, it seems that they had a mutual understanding and acceptance of one another. I wasn't really surprised by JFK's womanizing before and during the marriage to Jackie only because I've heard about it so many times, especially his affair with Marilyn Monroe. I was shocked about his health problems and the Dr Feelgood shots he was taking. That's pretty risky when someone gambles with their life like that.Overall, it was a good read. But I wouldn't recommend this bo... moreok for those who've read other biographies about the Kennedys.
review 2: These Few Precious Days goes into the intimate behind the scenes of the original power couple. There were rumored affairs from both Jack and Jackie but despite it all they truly loved one another. What I found absolutely eerie was the fact that JFK had premonitions of his death and the final method that would do him in. And yes, it did have to do with a rifle and how he tried to pull out of his trip to Dallas which ended his life. What shock me was about the couple's dependent and being unaware of the dangers of amphetamine injections that gave the couple the boost they needed to cope with all the functions of being a president and first lady. The book does detail how many ailments that JFK suffered from unknowingly to the American public and how well he hid them from everyone. His children brought him much joy but the miscarriages that Jackie suffered and the loss of his son Patrick which led to emotional outpouring to his love for Jackie and brought the couple closer to one another than ever before.I was surprised that Jackie didn't particularly favor politics but she loved her husband so much that she stood by him despite her distaste for the political ring and totally supported him through his entire campaign and presidency with poise and grace. JFK and Jackie were indeed an example of the ideal couple but it just goes to show you that even the most ideal couples have to work at keeping their relationship despite the fact you are on stage. Their relationship had all the typical problems but as public figures it can put more strain on the relationship and that is evident in this intimate novel. less
