review 1: Interesting but difficult read...bit of a slog. Might have preferred audio book on this one (I left out large swaths in the middle). BUT, interested to learn on page 222 that physical exercise is more conducive to brain health than "brain" exercises or doing crosswords etc. Doing crosswords regularly just makes you better at doing crosswords. AND, another interesting thing - the whole 'Mozart Effect" was FAKE!!! A whole industry was built around that (baby's listening to classical music etc.) but the original experiment was a fraud. Whaddyaknow!
review 2: This is a great book for those who have illusions of what their brains can do. I especially liked the illusion of attention. This is apparent in the need for some to use the cell phone and drive. They belie
... moreve they can pay 100% attention to both their driving and the conversation or worse their texts. Unfortunately, the loser in this scenario is the motorcyclist or the pedestrian that simply came out of nowhere. Other illusions such as memory, cause, confidence, knowledge, and potential are all described and discussed in this book. I highly recommend this book for everyone interested in thinking about how they think and what they believe their abilities are. Now I am going to listen to Mozart and play brain games to make me smarter (that of course is an illusion). less

Provides a great reality check and makes you really think about what you think you know.

A very sobering book in the aspect of so many illusions that we have.
