review 1: The Malone family has a catchphrase: We are a family on a journey to a place called wonderful. And quite a journey it is. The Mighty Miss Malone tells the story of Deza Malone and all the twists and turns she goes though during the Great Depression. Her dad can't find food for the family anywhere, and after a life-changing fishing accident on Lake Michigan, Deza's world changes. The Malone family starts to drift apart, with Deza's brother, Jimmie, going off to join a performance company, and her father going far away to find a steady job. After her Father and her brother leave, she sticks with her mother but has to move to Michigan. She misses her best friend Clarice desperately and her mother has to find odd jobs to rent an apartment. But Deza and her mother don't lose ho... morepe, and soon enough, the Malone family are back on the journey to wonderful again.I had read the prequel to this book, Bud Not Buddy, last year, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though these two stories aren't directly related, they share many of the same events (I really liked that I was able to create a timeline of what happened to Deza and what would have been happening to Bud at the same time). I was able to relate to Deza throughout the story, particularly our love for being verbose (that's wordy). The situations she found herself in seemed real to me, even if I've never rode the rails or moved to a different state. Some of the situations she was in were also very provoking, like when she met her brother again after he left for show business and when she got to see her dad for the first time in over a year.
review 2: The book The Mighty Miss Malone by Christopher Paul Curtis, Is a book about Deza Malone and the struggle that she goes through with her family. Deza is in the 7th grade with her best friend Clarice Deza is a very smart tough girl. She must move because of her dads working conditions. I personally enjoyed Deza's personality an character. I recommend this book for people who like books with obstacle's. less
