review 1: I had a chance to have lunch with Ciji Ware during a recent writers conference. Romance is not a genre I'm much interested in, but the historical aspects of the book kept me engaged. It is a book I would recommend, especially to those who enjoy the genre. I didn't rate it higher simply because I'm mentally ranking it against the best books I've read. On my scale there are probably only a couple of dozen books that rate 5 stars.

That being said, I really did learn a lot about the tragedy in 1906 and it made me want to visit San Fran. I was also fascinated by the history and culture of the time so I had to bump it up to 3 stars. less
