This has been pushed back way too many times but no longer! This is a part of my renewed effort to get back in the habit. This was a great book to start with.

Old friends and strange allies come together to aid him, but Caramon must take the last, greatest step alone. The step into the Abyss.
Recommendation: Adult, maybe late teens. Any admirer of high fantasy should be familiar with this series.
I really liked this book for what is actually on the pages. It was paced well and the story was entertaining with a good emphasis on the characters in the right ways. There’s a sense of fulfillment finishing this with a very Dragonlance feel to the whole thing.
There were a couple of things I questioned, but since I can’t seem to articulate them they must not be important.
Raistlin’s character arc has been amazing to watch. He’s got steady development and his resolution was great. Caramon struggled to change and improve over the long term and that’s what makes him frustrating but also feel real. His resolution is bittersweet. Tasslehoff is actually greatly changed over the last two trilogies. He reflects at the end of this book how he has trouble talking with other kender because they just don’t care. Tanis Freakin Half-Elven……I wish his role in this book was greatly reduced, but we can’t have everything. Crysania had mostly finished her character arc in the last book, so she was mostly a passive character in this book. Over-all she was a decent character though. Dalamar was actually a fairly major character and has really earned my respect.
In summary, the trilogy was good for a time travel story. It highlighted two historic time periods as well as continues the story of the Companions. Next up, Lost Chronicles.
