review 1: I TRULY LOVE BOOKS WITH A SOUTHERN SETTING, THIS WAS A GREAT ONE (the who-done-it was really good) AND HILARIOUS. THIS WAS FULL OF THE QUIRKY CRAZY THINGS THAT COULD ONLY BE SAID AND DONE IN THE SOUTH. I WAS NOT BORN IN THE SOUTH BUT HAVING TWO SOUTHERN GRANDMOTHERS, I DID NOT MISS BEING RAISED THE OLD FASHION WAY. I READ SO MANY SOUTHERN SAYINGS I HAD'NT HEARD IN YEARS. ONLY A TRUE SOUTHERN PERSON CAN SAY THINGS IN SUCH A FUNNY WAY. I LOVE THESE CRAZY PEOPLE IN THIS LITTLE TOWN. OH, AND BUBBA SOUNDS SUPER SEXY AND HOTT, I CAUGHT THE VAPORS JUST IMAGINING HIM. YUMMY! ;D
review 2: I adored the other books I read by this author, but this one wasn't quite my speed. It's at the same time a cozy mystery and a parody of all books set in the small town, modern South.
... more Unfortunately, parodies aren't very enjoyable for me --- I don't really feel comfortable laughing at southerners since many of the people I know fit the stereotypes in certain ways, and I had a hard time caring about characters who were purposely made to be one-dimensional. Our hero *does* transcend the stereotypes, despite his name (Bubba), but he isn't quite enough to carry the whole book on his own. It was worth the price (free), but isn't enough to make me buy book two. less
