review 1: Had written a review, but it disappeared.Bubba is back. He's trying to make a good impression on Deputy Willodean Gray. And then, Precious (his bassett hound) attracts his attention by barking at the Christmas/Nativity decoration in the town square. When he goes to check, he discovers another body. This time Sheriff John does not suspect him, but the crime is in the city and the Chief of Police, Big Joe, is determined to take Bubba down for the murder - evidence or not. He and his officers jump Bubba and one of them manages to kick him in the head with steel-toed boots and knock him out. He cannot make up his mind whether Willodean likes him, or not and spends quite a bit of time worrying about that - when he's not being jumped on and arrested by Big Joe and his policemen... more. The man who was killed was a friend of his mother's and then another friend of Miz Demetrice is killed as well. Miss Bertha is stabbed to death with a santa claus cheese knife. Bubba suspects Miz Demetrice knows something that she's not telling and he's just as determined she will tell. In the meantime, he's racing around trying to rescue the potential victims and doesn't really have a lot of time to think about who the murderer might be.
review 2: Thank Jesus I've already got the next installment of Bubba Snoddy's adventures in Pegramville, Texas. I'd be pee owed if I had to wait to start finding out what happened to Officer/Detective Willodean. Let me just say that I love these stories. I love how even in the midst of murder and mayhem, and acting like rednecks, the Colorful Characters maintain witty sarcasm and smart repartee. That's how it is in the South, you know. There are those who may think we are ignorant or just plain stupid because of the way we talk but that isn't necessarily the case and Bubba Snoddy and Miz Demetrice are delightful examples of that very fact. In this reader's humble opinion, taking into account her secret obsession with vampires, I would rather read Miz Bevill than Miz Harris any day. No offense, Charlaine, but what you've got is a great premise and an even greater deal with HBO. Your characters ain't got nothin' on the Snoddys. less
