review 1: Back to Front and Upside Down! is a story that features a little boy named Stan. At school it is Mr. Slipper’s birthday, and the class decides to make birthday cards for their principal’s big day. Stan is so excited about this assignment, until he realizes that writing will be involved. He tries to write the letters that his teacher prints on the board, but Stan’s letters come out all wrong. Stan is too embarrassed to ask for help, until he finally tells his friend about his frustration. In the end, Stan does ask for help. As a result, he gets the help that he needs and is successful. While this book is not quite suited for Fifth Graders, I think that the soft illustrations and text would be a perfect fit for a primary student. This book would be a great anchor text ... moreto use at the beginning of the year to teach kids the importance of asking for help and using problem solving strategies. I especially like how the author included another classmate who joined Stan in asking for help. These scenes comfort students in knowing that usually there are others who need help too. This book would be very encouraging for students with dyslexia. All in all, I would rate this book a 4 for all of those reason. I decided to rate it a 4 instead of a 5, because I think the front style would more be challenging for young children to read.
review 2: "Back to Front and Upside Down!" is about a young student who struggles with writing his letters. After help from his teacher and lots of practice he finally gets his letters right. It is a good book that shares that everyone needs help at times and it is ok to ask for help. It would be great to have in the classroom. Many students will be able to relate and understand what the young student is going through. less
