review 1: I read this book as part of my book club and I wasn't looking forward to it since it's not the type of book I read. But from the first page I was hooked! I found myself rooting for the main character and hoping things would work out for her. It's written more like chick-lit than just literature so it was a light read. I recommended it to another friend for her book club because I enjoyed it so much!
review 2: This Canadian book, modeled on the life of an early woman doctor, was the adult life I would really have chosen for Anne (of Green Gables), and it was mostly for that unfair reason that I really enjoyed this book. Sentence by sentence, the writing was occasionally awkward - but the overall story was strong, so it would also be a choice for anyone who likes... more historical fiction, especially if they're interested in women in medicine and/or Canadian literature. less
