review 1: This was a cute, funny and insightful read about a homeless girl and her talking Pet Plushie Dog [who happens to be a raging alcoholic] and her quest to help and heal people of Japan. I loved that each little chapter featured many special occasions and holidays and how I learned a lot about the culture of Japan. I also enjoyed following along and watching Kobato learn about the world around her and humanity as a whole from kindess to crulety. It is a great start to the series and although there were some scenes that felt a little slow. On the whole it was an enjoyable read.

... moreerstand what's going on.As for the story, there really wasn't one. The main character is Kobato Hanato. She's a adorable, VERY naive (and somewhat stupid) young girl who tries ever so hard to help people. She's needs to help others in order to earn her magic bottle. She need her magic bottle in order to collect "wounded hearts". (gag...)I think I'm must be becoming jaded (or just old), but Kobato came across as pure mindless fluff. less
