review 1: I liked Inkheart but definitely not a kids book! Makes me so mad when there is swearing in kids books and especially when you're listening to a cd. There was quite a bit of swearing and adult topics like murder, etc. Would have been happier if this had been in Young Adult. After Inkheart, I started Inkspell. The author became tedious. I am so tired of her extended descriptions of everything and the way that she stops in the middle of action to explain what the characters are thinking and every fear they have. I was so so annoyed by the end, I can't believe I finished the books. It would have been better with the book (rather than cd) so that I could skip all the tedium. Probably won't ever read another Funke book unless she gets a better editor to help her weed out... more all the unnecessary words that she alone seems to enjoy.
review 2: A bit of spoiling...? Maybe?Inkheart was one of my top books in grade school and in middle school I fell in love with Inkspell. Inkdeath didn't register as well for me. I was disappointed how Farid was kind of just dropped and she didn't truly talk it out with him... at least I feel she didn't. Also her suddenly new love story felt like a jolt, I hadn't expected it and it felt rushed into.. But I have to say I fully support her not waiting for Farid. I love him, but I wanted to slap him sometimes. less
