review 1: This was a short story, but I really wanted more. It seemed like a great premise for a full length novel, it was intriguing, I want to know more about what happened, why children are so valued, why did the parents die, why can't people remember things. My curiousity is well and truly piqued, I almost wish I hadnt read this because I know it goes no further but I really want to know what happens next and how the characters ended up that way. Very good but entirely frustrating - too short!
review 2: A really good short story. Amazing writing. I wanted more, though, especially from Noah. Seriously, such a great, interesting, tragic supporting character. He was very intriguing to me, more so than the narrator or her wayward friend Jess. However, this is an inten... moretionally very sparse short story; I feel like I'm missing the point criticising anything about the character development. I loved the writing - it was so elegant, chilly and atmospheric. However, the stripped down nature of the writing just makes it feel very confusing towards the middle. Also, Noah is such an excellent character that I felt sad thinking he was only in one very short short. I didn't really get where Noah and Jess and Kate were. However, the ending was great. I really liked it. less
