review 1: So this one took me for a loop. It started out great. I mean really, who wouldn’t love the idea of an older woman having fun between the sheets with a younger man. To add to the mix, the younger man someone was someone you use to BABYSIT! It was great to see Ryan and Shea get acquainted with one another again. But as the story went on, I just had a hard time believing a young 10 year old boy could have a strong love of someone, maybe infatuation but not love. As the story went on the connection begin to grow but then the new nightmare just threw me for a loop. I started to feel like I was reading a scene from The Young and the Restless. All the twist and turns and tears and heartaches just got to be too much for me. But I finished the story and was happy with the endin... moreg for Ryan and Shea.
review 2: So torn about this book. I read a wide variety of genres, searching for a connection to character, not just a favourite story-line. I did not find anything about Ryan's character to be believable or endearing. There were far too many over the top dramatic plot turns that came out of left field, were wrapped up quickly only to turn into another over the top dramatic plot turn. It was hard to believe that in all the months that Ryan was back in town, she was never able to mention the fact that she was married. It was also hard to believe that in the years she was away, her best friend never once mentioned to Shea, or her mother what Ryan was up to in New York, nor had Riley mentioned to anyone that his daughter was married. You'd think that at some point neighbours might ask: "So what's Ryan up to these days?"As weeks and months passed and Ryan slowly cleaned out her father's house I expected there to be something vital hidden in his study ... love letters, pictures, suggestions that he thought he might have other children, even the odd keepsake from Ryan's mother. Nothing. Nothing to hint at or validate future plot twists. Apparently, just a lot of trash and a fantastic car that Ryan was able to sell off without anyone noticing for a while, which actually didn't even belong to her.Ryan's crazy, abusive ex-husband doesn't bother to retaliate or seek her out until the end of the book? Doesn't seem realistic, not given his sudden anger when he does appear. Did he simply shrug and think she was just off visiting a friend for several months? Did he not stand to lose a small fortune in a divorce settlement which he didn't seem to contest through lawyers?I was saddened by these glitches, which I felt destroyed a potentially great story. The initial premise of the book was quite intriguing: young boy falls in love with his babysitter who offers him a beacon of light in his otherwise lousy world and he holds onto that love for thirteen years! I thought the author did a great job portraying Andrew/Shea as the sensitive, wounded boy who tries to turn his world around and be successful. I enjoyed his emotionally vulnerable side and of course the descriptions of his physical appearance and mannerism. The romantic scenes were smoldering hot and always filled with love and tenderness even while being a little risqué. The age difference didn't bother me, Shea seemed to be quite mature and focused for this age and Ryan did seem hesitant enough to commit, wanting Shea to wait a few years to make sure he still felt the same ... kudos for that. This book could have used some extreme editing and would have benefited from several of the bizarre plot twists being removed. less
