review 1: My new favorite author, Craig Johnson, and the Longmire series makes this another 'good-read' on my list! This novella takes the reader on a harrowing life-saving mission between Durant, Wyoming, and Denver, Colorado's Stapleton airport in an old WWII bomber plane during a horrific blizzard. Longmire and his old pal ex-sheriff Lucien Connally fly an injured child, her grandmother, the doctor, and a feisty co-pilot through dangerous weather to save the day. Darn good writing and reading for a cold winter day in Colorado.
review 2: Even though it is not a murder mystery, it still has Craig Johnson's signature suspenseful style, witty dialogue that sounds like you would expect old friends to use and superb character development. My only complaint is that Henry Sta... morending Bear is mentioned but does not have a role in the story. He is one of my favorite characters in the series. Nothing else is missing from this outstanding book. Don't let the words Christmas novella make you think this is the feel good book of the year. It is an intense, gripping look back at an event in Longtime's life that happened before his daughter grew up or his wife passed away. less
