review 1: My niece's name is Megan and she loves to read. She had a giftcard for her 6th birthday and when she saw this book she had to have it.I think for adults (especially those who read a lot) this book would not be that exciting. It was pretty basic. Not much happened. But this book is not made for adults. And my niece really enjoyed it. I would rate the book less. But she really liked it. So just be prepared this book is for kids! Although that said I read a lot of books to her and some are just as entertaining for the adults!Summary: Two human girls help Megan the Monday Fairy try to get her Fun Day flag back.So overall it is a cute concept (each book has a different girl's name in the title). It gets kids to read which is great. Just less entertaining for the ad... moreults.
review 2: These fairy books have the most basic of plots, no character development, and little in the way of morals or lessons. And talk about formulaic! But....they have single handedly turned my almost 5 year old into a book addict. She is reading two a day now and as soon as she is done with one she can't wait to get her hands on the next in the series. I see several trips to the library in our future (and these books are popular - today only three titles were on the shelf, out of what - 50 or so?). The books are quite girly - rainbows and sparkles and bubbles and cute animals and castles and kings and queens and fairy wings and wands. A new fairy is introduced in each book; two human girls have the task of finding and helping each lost or hidden fairy. The books are at a second grade reading level. They are a nice transition from picture books to chapter books in that they are mainly text but still have black and white drawings on each page. Approximately 75 percent of a two-page spread is text, and the remainder is drawings, which is great for a child who has the ability to read at a second grade level but is still overwhelmed by pages of unbroken text. The drawings are simple but cute.If you have a K-2 grade girl these books will probably be a big hit. They aren't high-quality literature, but if they encourage a child to read then they have served a good purpose, right? less
