review 1: This very short book took me over two weeks to read as I pondered each paragraph and chapter. It's jam packed with thought provoking concepts that we may or may not have heard or thought about, but they're placed in a different perspective and in a total picture approach. If you don't think you need a lesson on how to be compassionate, you do. If you do think you need one, you will broaden your understanding of what compassion means.
review 2: I found this to be a wonderful book - very insightful and enlightening. I enjoyed his erudite language (yes, I know it's translated from Tibetan by Jeffrey Hopkins - but still, it is so well written!) and his perspective on how to calm a lot of the turmoil and turbulence that is inside of me. I found the meditation e
... morexercises very helpful in allowing me to deal with situations that I used to get very irritated with in a new way. In particular the advice of looking from "outside" of yourself when you feel yourself getting angry and stepping back and away to see the bigger picture has helped me immensely when I find myself annoyed or irritated by something (or someone). I've been reading several other books that were written by the Dalai Lama (currently I'm reading "Healing Anger", "Beyond Religion" and "Ethics for a New Millennium") and while I find some of the material to be beyond me at the moment ("Healing Anger" is particularly difficult for me now) I find much of what he's written to resonate deeply with me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to broaden their perspective and to see things from a new perspective. less

A gem of a book and a great reminder of how important it is to be compassionate in everything we do.

nothing I didn't already knew... it's putting it into practice that is the hard part.
