review 1: Wow! I'd heard so much about this book and how good it was, and while I believed it, I never imagined it would be some of the best Spider-Man material in years! The basic premise is that Peter's body is now controlled by the mind of Doc Ock, but he has Peter's memory and conscience and so he's vowed to be a more effective Spider-Man than ever before. From that relatively simple premise follows a storyline that examines most of S-M's fundamental aspects through a different lens, and which boils over with surprising humor and a mean, dark edge that prods at what you're comfortable with for this character without tripping over itself into cynicism. Dan Slott has always had a keen eye for writing the web-head's life in interesting ways, and this is some of his best work! Can't... more wait for the next volume!
review 2: I really like this series-- it's so interesting to see a dedicated super-villain like Doctor Octopus try to turn good. It's not easy! And I'm not entirely sure if he can pull it off (or if I want him to! Poor Peter). It makes for a great story, though, especially since he's doing some things better than the original Spider-Man did (and some things WORSE, of course). Otto is kind of a good hero! Except for when he's totally NOT. It's a good dynamic.Sidenote: the letters columns are FULL of people who hate the series. REALLY HATE IT. One issue had two full pages of angry letters! Yikes. less

I quite enjoyed this book, even though I wouldn't really consider myself a Spider-Man fan.
