The Superior Spider-Man (Marvel NOW!)
review 1: Along the same lines of Superior Spider-man vol 1 Slott is using this change in direction to explore Spider-man in an interesting way. Doc Ock has taken over Spider-man's mind but is forced to do good. In this vol we see the return of Ramos in one half of the art duties and even though I love Ramos I would say the darker tones aren't as suited to his style. But since I love his style so much I can overlook it. This volume's main story point climaxes with issue nine - which I knew ahead of time due to some Slott interviews. Look - we all knew (since it has already happened in the comics) that Parker would be back eventually, but kudos to Slott for faking us out on how it would happen. The "mental memory" of Parker has been slowly gaining more and more control of the body an... mored this comes to a head in issue nine and not in the way many were expecting. Still a fun book - but it is getting darker and darker as we are starting to see the consequences a darker Spider-man means Green Goblin can exploit what is happening.
review 2: The saga of the Superior Spider-Man continues! Otto Octavius, in a last ditch effort to beat his long-time nemesis has switched bodies with Peter Parker and let his foe perish in Ock's body. Now Otto has vowed to be a better Spider-Man than Peter ever was and in many ways he is making that a reality. Without having to deal with the morality issues that Peter build his super-hero career on, Ock is ruthlessly beating criminals, killing some, and allowing his ego to distance himself from those who should be in his circle of trust and support. Otto faces the issue now of a sliver of Peter that has survived and threatens to jeopardize his whole operation. What is a megalomaniac psychopath to do when his own brain houses his worst enemy? This volume was more of a 3.5-3.75 to me. Still good, still enjoying this concept (even knowing that it won't last). The internal battle between Otto and what little of Peter still remained was well written and visually beautiful! If anything, my biggest beef is how the Avengers reacted to him. So he's not a Skrull...in the course of the Marvel U it's not like there's been possessions, body swapping, mind control, other shapeshifters, and masters of disguise. Are you really telling me that they are all foolish enough to say "Well, we know your not one of the million threats we've ever faced. With your erratic behavior, out-of-character arrogance, and new lust for violence we'll let you walk with a stern talkin' to." Um...what? Cap and Wolverine are gonna let that slide? At any rate, a solid read none the less and a recommendation for anyone who is a fan of comics, graphic novels, and of course Spidey. less

They are really keeping this going! This might be the best spider-man series since maximum carnage.
