review 1: I was surprised by how much this book made me think about whether the main character was doing the right thing, whether he was the good guy, and that this fairly serious, dark book actually managed to make me laugh out loud a few times. I also thought it was a fairly realistic showing of a teen sociopath. It had a good twist, memorable characters, a gripping climax and I would really recommend it. 5/5
review 2: Have you ever had one of those days where you accomplish absolutely nothing? You wake up late and just waste time until it's time to go back to bed? There's nothing particularly exciting or interesting happening yet you keep drudging through the day refreshing your Facebook feed and snacking on a handful of cereal at a time hoping that something big will
... morecome along but it never does. Then you go back to bed and think "Well, that was a waste of time." That's what this book is like.***POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD***- I didn't feel connected in any way to any of the characters. I simply read to finish the book. There was no emotional investment.- Without the supernatural aspect you'd have a decent book about a kid grappling with his inner demons; real psychological stuff. Without the "Dexter For Kids" story you'd have a decent monster story. Combined, though it's not that great.- I felt like it would have been more suited to be a young adult novel. It was certainly written that way.- I feel like the author tried to combine a lot of elements to create a catchy and edgy story. It ultimately fell flat. It turned out to be more like a Dexter/Supernatural fan-fiction crossover without all of the things that make us love Dexter and Supernatural.***NO SPOILERS AHEAD***Verdict: Meh. I'll read the next two books if I'm really bored and don't have anything better to do, like punch myself in the crotch repeatedly. less
