review 1: I just finished listening to the audiobook. I'm so torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars. I expected it to be more disturbing and scary and some parts I felt dragged on a bit and slowed the momentum. Other parts had me riveted (like when _____ discovers ________ sewn to the _________ ;D). One thing I really want to note: I expected Marvin to be much more purely evil and menacing - and I was both a bit disappointed (because that would have been scarier) and pleasantly surprised and intrigued that he was a much more 2 dimensional character, especially by the end. I think I will try to read it in print because the narrator, though very good, didn't have quite the dark, menacing quality I feel the story needs.
review 2: I wasn't sufficiently warned about this scary
... more, scary book. Somewhere in the first hundred pages or so, I found myself gripped by the most hideous scene I've ever read, and it was all downhill from there, every stomach churning moment. I don't like my horror this plausible, preferring fangs and fur and aliens to murderous psychopaths, and I have a very hard time with graphic torture scenes. I won't deny this is a well-written book, but even horror lovers should be cautious. It takes "disturbing" to whole new places. less
