review 1: This is my first du Maurier novel. I have seen the various adaptations of Rebecca but never read the novel. So glad I started out with My Cousin Rachel. It is brilliantly written from a damaged young man's point of view. As I kept reading the novel, I see how growing up in a privileged yet isolated environment made both Ambrose and Philip ill prepared for the larger world and led to both men's inevitable ruin. The book is so layered. It leave you with many questions at the end. You may find yourself doubting your decision and re-visiting it over and over again. du Maurier was a brilliant writer of incredible technical skill. You will not be disappointed in this one.
