review 1: Ghosts, hauntings, assassins, double- dealing, romance, everything but the proverbial kitchen sink was thrown into this breathless rush of a novel. There is no time to pause and reflect, just go with it and hold on to your seat. This is a cleverly constructed book which challenges the reader to work out a complicated plot that gives away very few clues. Has the assassin been conned? Is he haunted or mentally ill? It would be difficult to write more without introducing a spoiler, so I will just recommend it to lovers of thrillers and ghost stories.
review 2: I am disappointed. Perhaps because I expected more from Darren Shan. The character seems naive and juvenile, in spite of his past. He got conned oh so many times. Even though he is supposed to be mature...
... more 40? I somehow feel like Ed is in his teens or early twenties.Even the twists are too obvious. It's OK if the book is for teens or children, but for adults, I was expecting more subtle hints. less
