The Saga of Larten Crepsley
review 1: Larten has really changed in this book. In the previous book he was young and hot-headed, but while still hot-headed he has grown a lot and gained many more experience. For example, he met the Lady of the Wilds, he decided to leave his training and he also declined to train with a prince. In the text, "But he is strong and I believe that he will find his way in the end." (135) This means that Larten has acquired quite some respect and to get respect you must have experience to know what to do to earn it in the first place. Overall this is a good book and I wonder how much Larten will learn in later books.
review 2: Larten Crepsley is a young vampire, who, like many at their young vampire age, still don't know what they will do with their life. Larten, with a gr
... moreoup called the cubs (Also vampires), goes outside in to the world to just have fun and not care about anything. Soon though, this begins to bore Larten, so he goes to Vampire Mountain, where most of the vampires live, and he goes to his old instructor, Seba. Seba tries to get Larten to talk to him, but it seems as though Larten has fallen into a silent depression. After a terrifyingly disgusting mission to clean out decayed bodies from a waterway, Larten seems to have become happy and normal again. He decides to leave the Mountain after a few years of training to become a general, and comes across his old friend Vancha, who was on his way to an old friend Evanna. There a servant of Evanna, Malora falls in love with Larten, and follows him to wherever he chooses to go next. He ends up obtaining the Vampire flu, very dangerous and very deadly for vampires. They go crazy and sick, doing things without thinking. Malora desperately tries to save him from the flu, but it continues to get worse and worse. Conflict is a significant literary element on this book, because Vampires love to fight. Even Larten fights vampires while in Vampire Mountain when he was at a party there. It is a custom there, and an honor to die in a fight. The flu made him fight many people as well, sucking their blood out without thinking. Vampires aren't very violent when taking blood from their prey in this book, but when the deadly flu hits, anything can happen. I would give this good four stars because even though this was a very good book, it was short, and in series. If I had to rate the whole series, I would give a five, but this book deserves a four. Also, it was entertaining, but since this takes place in old times, more description about that time period is something I would have wanted. less
